Explosion at Scaled Composites

You may or may not know that I'm a bit of a space enthusiast. I was at the Mojave Airport for the first rocket flight of SpaceShipOne in December 2003 when it became the first privately developed aircraft to break the sound-barrier. I was also there when it first and second times it went into space back in June 2004.

I'm surprised that I didn't hear about this until today, but there was an explosion at Scaled Composites, creators of SpaceShipOne, last week during a test related to the development of SpaceShipTwo that killed 3 and injured 3 more. You can read more about this in the LA Times.

I've spent a bit of time at the Mojave Airport. It's hard to imagine an explosion of this magnitude there.
